Oh that summer favorite.... corn!!!

This morning at work for some reason the conversation managed to center around food and TV. It started with a couple of us talking about a quick road trip in a few weeks to a town to the north...and a resturant we should try. Anyways, it became entangled in the Ir*n Ch*f shows and the surplus of sweet corn one of the co-workers has been bringing in to share. If you have ever watched the competition between the chefs, there is a 'secret ingredient' in which the masters of the kitchen must create 6 dishes from this ingredient...well, the talk was using corn as the ingredient and having our own 'office' competition, lol.
Now the question is.... 6 ways to use corn....and one must be a dessert.

Have at it with your creative juices this weekend.... how do you use corn, besides the boil or grill it. Just for the fun of it! Wink

Tuesday, Tuesday

A few plans fell through for tonight which is ok because I need to get a few things done around here before the holiday weekend rolls around.
Last night, an impromtu 'block party' had me visiting down the road for a few hours... the event? Road construction, lol. Some people can make a party out of just about anything! I was actually hoping (gasp, do I dare say it?) for the road work to be done near my place just so I could watch the men hard at work. It happened to be down the road, where the road is closed to through traffic...so with a baracade at the 4way, we gathered just down from there for some drinks and grilling... in the street! About a dozen showed up to sit and enjoy a beautiful evening. Only problem was this morning... slight headache and a bit tired.
Tomorrow league bowling starts once again for the year. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of the game...but I need to find my team shirt. I haven't needed it since April so as I sit here in front of my computer I'm thinking about where in the closet it could be. My ball and shoes are already in my locker at the lanes, so that's one thing I don't need to remember to grab...
A weekend road trip is in the works.... we'll just leave it at that for now.
Even with summer's final hurrah this weekend, the road construction season is still in full swing.... one project was just started this week which will affect my travel time to and from work... gotta love Minnesota's seasons~~ winter and road construction! It shouldn't be too much of a bother until the weekend's start on Fridays, which means I'll be finding my backroads once again.
Hmmmm.... I need to come up with a good blog one day. I just might have to pull out my writing project folder and get some ideas.

The Evil Twin and the State Fair

As tradition has it, the State Fair is once again taking place...so for me and some friends its time to find interesting items, food on a stick and watch people. The last few years some of us from work have headed to the fair in the early afternoon to do our annual wanderings...this year though it was the 'original two' of us, one couldn't get off of work for the afternoon...and well, the other... we needed a break from her, besides, lol...she wandered on her own more than enjoyed our company the last couple times making us wonder  where she had dissapppeared to this time....and she didn't carry her cell phone so we had to wait until she found us. It was fun just the two of us again... but then again, its always fun no matter how many folks you have with you.
Something interesting always happens.... the first year we got our handwriting analyized (mine mentioned trouble a few times, sheesh), flirting with the salesmen is always fun, lol... and they flirt sooo well, I mean if it means a sale they do it well! There is always the 'uniform alerts'... men in uniform are just soooo yummy! There is nothing better than an officier or an Armed Forces man wearing a uniform well that doesn't deserve a second look and an admiring stare, lol....I am sooo bad Wink , hey if the guys can watch why can't I? This year's fun though happened to be the tshirt I was wearing... 'I am the evil twin'. I do have a twin sister and when we go out, she has fun asking people if they think we're twins... she wants to bet them for a drink, I just laugh and enjoy it... we are sooo much the same and yet sooo much different!
It didn't take long to get responses to my shirt... first stop of course was the lady's room so that we could wander comfortably. I think most people start and finish there, lol, so there was a line...not a long one or anything but a line. A chuckle from one of the fellow 'line waiters' ...
"Evil twin, lol"
"Yep, my sister and I go back and forth.... she won, I got the shirt!"
Most people think its just a line, but the funny thing is.... she actually got me the shirt, lol...well, her hubby saw it and said, 'we have to get it'. It was the gag gift at Christmas a few years back... it does come in handy at times!
Enjoy the pics.... of course most are animals, its what the fairs around here are all about... and the food on a stick.

What is normal?

After being on vacation for a week, ok it was more like R&R than vacation but it wasn't work, I've gotten back into the swing of 'normal'. Which leads to the question.... just what is normal?
The boy(my son... the boy is my blog name for him) and his girlfriend are always giving me a bad time. First its my spuratic visits to the casino... the boy is worried about his inheritance, lol. I've told him he's not inheriting anything but the cats so he may as well get a good paying job. (of course this is all in teasing, but isn't some teasing a bit of a reality check?) Well, my life is a bit more quiet for now, a few computer generated games and projects around the house occupy a bit more of my time...to which the boy teases now... you need to get out more!!! GGRRRRRR.... make up your mind grasshopper! lol
The kids,  being in their twenties and making their way up in the world have a different kind of normal than myself. Yes, I do get out and socialize but I also have my home duties in which I need to spend some time as well. Some  people may think that one person's life is sooo different than their own but it is that what makes us all soo original and interesting. I know of people who are scared of the internet...worried about all the 'strange' people on the other side of the screen. Honestly, there are a mix of all people online and in the bars and casinos and concerts....in all of life. It all depends on what you are comfortable with.... normal is normal.... just a different normal for us all.

August's mid month Sunday

So I had to come up with a title, (something that is mind boggling at times) it was supposed to be a morning coffee thoughts category but a phone call and a trip to the store has changed a few things. The week has gone by fast...funny how at the beginning of the week there was sooo many days until I had to go back to work and now its the end of the week off and I'm wishing I still had more time. Its not like I have anything that absolutely needs taking care of but I enjoyed the days of visiting, being somewhat occupied and yet relaxing.
Yesterday I did manage to wander off to a neighboring town for their 'music festival'..... a classic car show, some crafters selling their items and sitting back enjoying some Bluegrass music. I did make a purchase from one of the craft booths... I had told my daughter that I was going to find a wooden rocking horse for the baby's Christmas present back before he was born, so I had time to look for one... We do have a variety of craft shows throughout the year...a summer one, many more during the month of November, filling up the Saturdays with things to do. As my sister and I looked amongst the many items, we saw one which had many handmade wooden items... there was sitting in the back, a rocking 'dalmation'. He was adorable and unique.... I know, somewhat of an impulse buy yet an item I was somewhat looking for! He'll be living in my closet now for a couple months....
Another day was spent with my mother... she has been asking me to take some pictures of the stained glass windows in her church and it worked that one day I fit it in. Coffee and a sandwich at one of the newer 'chic' coffee places followed...the conversation was pretty nice...catching up on a few things, then the inevitable subject came up, asking about me going to services. Now I don't have to justify anything...I mean, I am grown up and all, lol. But my response still had her trying to dig more...
"You know mom, just because I don't go to your church doesn't mean I don't go"
"Well, I don't hear you talking about it"
"Um, mom.... I'm not one to 'preach' about being at church.... I believe that if you live a good life, people will want to know you. I live my life without 'forcing' my thoughts or beliefs on anyone'
One Bible passage that has always stuck with me from my growing up days, is the way I live.... "Don't stand on the corner, announcing your faith, but pray to me in silence' I know...its not the exact verse or put in the same words...but it is me. I believe in a higher entity and that is between me and that entity. Anyways.... just something that bothers me from time to time.
Now back to watching the Olympics....and enjoying the rest of my 'vacation' and yes... there will be more baby pics(a 5 generation one to be exact.... great, great gramma and her pride and joy) soon.
Have a great week!

Some things I should never say....

I have taken all week off, wasn't really planning on it but it works...  my problem is I have mentioned to a few people that I took the week off. Since I wasn't planning it, I don't have any big plans...well, the grandbaby... spent a little time over there but basically just getting things done around the place that have been neglected lately.
So today I've been roped into watching my nephew... the Mitsubishi kidlet, ( he called me Mitsubishi only because he could say that better than Bridget...Sarcastic , don't ask...somethings are better left a mistery!) Anyways...he's been busy looking for frogs in my backyard, making spiderwebs with leftover yarn in the living room, playing with Micromachine cars... I've been cleaning the kitchen cupboards, hmmmm..... I like his idea of the day better, lol.

I've got to do a bit of running this afternoon.... stop at the grandbaby's place for a 5 generation pic, so its time for a quick shower and grab the kidlet, camera and shopping list. So much for a quiet week off of work....guess the benefit is the oh so needed mental break from the zoo in which work can occationally become.

The new grandbaby...I am getting around to posting

Well, the long awaited grandbaby is here!!! I guess it seems like such a long wait because my daughter informed me of the baby wayyyyyyyyyyyy back when she was 2 weeks late.Eye-rolling Lol...I know, the kids were excited but they still had 9 months and I worry just a little because there is always the chance of that dissappointment if something would have gone wrong too early...
The little guy decided to make his presence known at 2 am Monday morning...and all day long! Early in the afternoon, he scared everyone when his heart rate dropped and an emergency c-section was talked about. The baby was 'sunny side up' according to the nurses, making each hard contraction put pressure on him..pressing his face against the birth canal. And stubborn just like his folks, every time they had gotten him turned, he would move back into his comfy position before the turn..  So it was almost 20 hours of labor... a long day of waiting... and then the wonder of it all!
DSCF3252_edited-1all... 7  pounds 14 ounces of bouncing baby boy!!

Somethings never change...reliving high school

Well....I survived the reunion. There weren't alot of folks who showed up but of course the ones who did were the right people... we had a blast!
The start of the evening was of course a bit slow... the casual visiting, catching up... The slide show was pretty cool, a few of my gfs and I sat watching it, laughing about...yep, I went out with him... he was soo hot back then. We all got to do the introductions, remember me....I'm so and so, this is my spouse(or I'm single, seeing someone special.... I'm just single). We kind of laughed about that later... why do you have to announce that you're single? Guess its somewhat like back in college...what's your major? Or when first introduced to someone...so what do you do for work?
It was interesting that about half the folks still lived in or around town while the others have moved to 'the big city' and about half were married, the other half single... just a good mix of people. I did bring my camera but was too busy visting to get alot of pictures... good thing one of my gfs husbands was pretty interested in the quality of my camera...he had fun sneaking up on people and just getting a shot. I'll have to go through some of them to decide if they'll be posted( I have this thing about privacy, if I post a pic, the person/people in that pic must be aware of it being online... I deal with alot of privacy issues with work and it tends to carry over into my online morality). The blasts from the past pics will be coming soon... I need to get the dvd from last night and a few from my sister to scan and post...
The tales of skinny dipping, drive in movie dollar nights, drinking and most innocent high school antics made the majority of us remember just how much fun we had...and a few people thought about what they were headed for with their kids now becoming teens. Oh the life we led back then... how times have changed and yet stayed the same.

My sis, the evil twin... ended up coming over to my place after the reunion. Omg, I sooo love giving her crap... she was just a bit more toasted than myself, so the 4 block walk was pretty entertaining... I was laughing soo hard. This morning was a bit rough... the boy called me early, he and his gf were stopping over...ummm, yeah..they managed to show up before I was out of bed...ringing that danged doorbell one too many times for me to ignore! Time for some coffee...a bit of visiting...maybe a nap soon. Tonight I'll be out for a bit with a gf... hopefully its not a late night, it might be a long week if I don't catch up on my sleep one of these days.

Can it really be?

There are just some days when a person seems overwhelmed... 'specially after a busy weekend and Monday posts can be somewhat scatter brained... yeah, yeah....I've got enough energy to go around so I'll post today, lol. Those days when one too many people expect something from you...or maybe you read something into something...anyways, blog on....

This weekend I'll be attending my 25th high school class reunion... geez, I'm not THAT old, lol. Although my twin sis is having a bit of a time dealing with those milestone birthdays..yes, she has mentioned a few times... in 7 years I'll be 50. Its a number...not a dang thing you can do to stop it, so don't make such a big deal out of it....
Back to the reunion... a few weeks ago, my sis and one of our friends met for a few minutes to exchange some pictures which will be included in a cd of those dreaded hairdos and youthful faces that were us. My sis had been going through pictures, preparing for her daughter's graduation party and ran across a few dozen that had been taken at parties or school events... there were a couple people who they couldn't remember, but they're biggest laugh was at my hair.... one of those fun perms that just exploded with frizzes. If only I were thinking... sabatoge, snatch the pic and burn, bury, destroy it!! Good lord... Saturday could be interesting!

Just a quickie

Well, I managed to put a few parade pics up.... It was a nice afternoon but I know remember why I haven't been to a parade in a few years, lol.... unless you have small children or adult beverages with you to help with the entertainment, you don't really miss much. It could just be that its the same thing every year... or I'm just getting older and a bit more cynical. Although the 'boys in blue' drummers are a bunch of characters. They are very good at what they do and they enjoy playing to the crowds... the shriners thrilled the crowds once again with their go carts and motorcycles...weaving in and out and other syncranized driving skills. The three old prop planes that did the fly over really were pretty cool.
Sunday ended up being an all out rain day, which was ok...my brother stopped over and visiting with him in the garage watching the rain and enjoying some Captain Private Stock and cokes really were the best way to enjoy the afternoon.
I've got some things going on this week which may or may not be blog worthy, lol....but I will enjoy it Wink
Until something exciting happens or I find some interesting topics, the blog may be a bit of few and far between... I will be around, just redirecting my energies at the moment...

August already? Geez

Just where does the time go? Its already August, the heat and humidity of this last week has proven that fact... of course its fair time so that adds to the fun. I did manage to sneak down to the fairgrounds on Thursday night and will probably wander the exhibits and entries this afternoon...but then again, like my son's girlfriend said....its just not the same as when you were a kid, lol....this is coming from a 'kid', she just turned 21 this summer!!
I didn't do alot of wandering around on Thursday but met a friend who I haven't visited in a bit.... a wonderful lady who I've had the pleasure of knowing for many years now. Lol... she's in her 60's, we laugh now about how I 'dated' her son back in high school. While I never actually dated him, we hung out a few times...back then their family was what we locals would call, 'cabin folks'. They lived in the metro area and had a cabin on the lake for weekends and vacations. There are quite a few families in the area who can lay claim to being 'locals' but have 'cabin folk' bloodlines, mine included.
Hmmm...I'm getting another blog weaved into this... back to the fair story and then more on locals and cabin folks....
Visiting Thursday included 'manning' one of the exhibit booths... my friend being retired and widowed, is very active with her volunteering....but then, that is how we actually met. We both did volunteer work with scouts and church activities, she took me under her wing so to speak. I may have been talked into helping out once again at one of the booths....am I up for staying at the fairgrounds late tonight? lol... guess its going to depend on just what I get accomplished this morning!
Back to Thursday....never fails, I'm out and everyone seems to be wanting to get ahold of me, I missed a half dozen calls...but my son did find me. Guess I can't hide from everyone, lol. So all of us managed to grab a burger at the 4H stand...the only 'air-condtioned' building on the grounds... but it was still pretty warm! While 'food on a stick' is the tradtional fair food, I passed on it that night...it seems the state fair food on a stick is more interesting, lol.... I was somewhat craving the roasted corn on the cob, but seeing a few folks enjoying it...the corn didn't look as good as other years. A late planting season made the ears look just a bit immature and not as plump or juicy as in the past...guess I'll have to wait on that, make it myself when the ears are looking a little better.

This afternoon the fair parade takes place... I haven't seen a fair parade in years!! The last dozen or so I've done some other things this first weekend of August... I had chaperoned a few youth trips and camps, had a blast doing that... spent a couple years at an annual music fest, camping out and enjoying meeting new friends. Seeing what the world had to offer, lol... now its back to a bit of the past. Funny how life changes but pulls you back into your youthful days. I'll bring my camera of course... dang...I was going to say I'll post the pics on Sunday but sheesh... what am I thinking? That's tomorrow! MORE COFFEE PLEASE!!

Ok, time to get a few things done before I go sit on the curb...
