23 de março An Interesting Weekend...AKA, the crazy trip with my sisThere are somedays that things just never go as smoothly as what you have envisioned them to do... Friday night was one of them!
My evil twin sister and I had been playing phone tag for a couple days and managed to catch each other on Friday morning. After a few general 'hey, how are ya's', I believe she opened the door and I walked right through it when I volunteered to make a 'quick' trip to Duluth afterwork to pick her daughter up from college for the weekend. The gals she normally got a ride home from had skipped class on Friday and she had wanted to come home to pick up a couple extra hours at work... sure, no problem... I'd pick my sister up when I got done working and make the trip...I mean, a little girl time on the hour and a half drive wasn't a bad thing.
Pffttt, right...ha! It started out nice, I mean it was the first day of spring.... but about 30 miles outside of Duluth it started to snow. Ok, I can handle that...I mean, we've had enough winter that a little snow wasn't going to make us turn around and abandon the journey. As we got closer to the port city, the snow picked up.... ok, a bit more challenging but nothing I couldn't handle, I had a few hours under my belt the way it was with work and all that day.
Well that all changed when we came within a few miles of the city limits..... the traffic slowed to stop and go. The roads were getting slightly packed down and beginning to get slippery. (If I had only known... I would have taken the back way avoiding the steep hills down into the city, but as with most things...hindsight is 20/20.) We past by a half a dozen accidents as we crept slowly to Lake Superior. Hmmm, that part over... it should have been just a hop, skip and jump to get to the college and head for home... yeah, right... Duluth is a city of hills, which at some points during the winter they literally shut down some of the streets. As with much of life, timing is everything and we had the poorest of timing Friday night trying to climb snowy hills during rush hour traffic. The mulititude of vehicles driving on the freshly fallen snow had made the roads pretty much 'black ice'. ( silly little term used when the compacting of the snow causes very slippery conditions) As long as we kept moving it was fine.... but there are these things called stop lights and intersections that had me putting on the brakes. And wouldn't ya know... my tires were spinning on that black ice!!!! Omg, all I kept seeing in my stressing little brain, was me...sliding backwards down the hills.
God love my sister, lol... cause I was about to strangle her! My passenger seat driver, was asking if she should get out and push!! Lmao....I can laugh now that its been a couple days, but omg..... all I could do then was tell her to just shut up. I know..not nice but I was frustrated and trying to climb ice covered mountains. She kept offering to get us a hotel room... farthest thing from my mind...I just wanted to pick up her daughter and get the heck out of that god-forsaken town at the time. A 15 minute drive from city limits to the college turned into 45 minutes of slowly fishtailing through the streets and traffic of the college town. We did make it to the college in one piece.... and I didn't throw my sister out of the car, lol. I think that's pretty reasonable. Found my backway out of town...avoiding the whole 'downhill' side of the drive and made it home.
The twin and I can laugh about it all now...but we have decided....our next trip to Duluth together will definately be during the summer months.... 20 de março TGIF.... toes go in firstYep, its been another week and Friday has shown up again! Spring has sprung in the area this week, but it is Minnesota so I won't hold my breathe that winter might remind us that snow still might fall. On Monday the temps were closing in on the 60's...it was sooo nice to open the windows and let in the fresh air while doing a bit of spring cleaning. I took a couple days off at the beginning of the week...extended my weekend, so that I could get a few things done. My to do list is still there, lol... I got a few things done just not all that I had anticipated and with the girls coming over tomorrow morning...well, I've got a few things to do tonight~ like mix up some frozen margaritas and throw together a few snacks.
It is definately a time to do a bit of relaxing this weekend....with a few things going on at work and a few more demands on my time, a well deserved bit of relaxation is overdue.
Yesterday seemed to be a day of non-stop phone calls and text messages, lol. A sick grandbaby, friends being silly and some just needing to talk....
hmmmm.... my mind just did a short vacation... my train of thought and everything just left, pfffttt...so much for actually doing something here this morning. Time for an iv dose of caffine!
And a handsome pair of shaded dudes!!! The drooling grandbaby and his daddy
16 de março PetsThis weekend, my sister's dog was put to sleep... he was 12 years old. They raised him since he was a pup, having owned his mother, they kept him from her litter of pups. She was pretty upset.... and when I did talk to her, she kept saying, 'I can't believe I'm crying over a dog...but he was a part of my family.'
Pets are family. They are there for you no matter what.... You scratch their ear, feed them, water them.... they love you unconditionally. Ok, one of my cats does get upset with me, lol... he misses me when I'm gone for a few days. There are those mornings when he does want all the attention while I'm waking up.... nudging my coffee cup for that ear rub, occationally spilling the too full cup.
Its funny how animals can sense your feelings... knowing when to 'lay low' and when to snuggle up and comfort a person. Of course they can be pretty entertaining as well! A cheap laser light and my little felines can chase the red dot endlessly!!
13 de março Its over and we're waiting for the fat lady to singOne more day and its done... the month long 'evaluation' of sorts at work. Its been an interesting month.... and honestly I'm glad for it to be over and things to get back to somewhat normal. Lately it seems that somewhat normal is the normal.... there is no sure thing anymore. All I'm hoping for on this what's become annual thing, is that I still get my weekend off... its not really much to wish upon but I do enjoy sleeping later than 5:30 on the weekends. My feeling is that it'll be just fine...but there is always that unconclusive hurry up and wait for the 'official' paperwork. I could end up with an 11 day payperiod or the dreaded 6 day work week. I shouldn't be complaining about any of it...I'm one of the lucky ones who still has a job in today's economic upheaval.
Ok... short and sweet for the moment...time for dinner with the family.... the extended ones~~ its the whole fam damily tonight, all the way from great-great gram to the sweet little grandbaby of mine. 06 de março An Attitude FridaySo here it is...Friday, the last work day for the week! Yipeee.... its been a long week, month actually as we are doing evaluations of sorts at work all month and its starting to take its toll on the grumpiness of the co-workers. Now I could go and post about the injustices of late but I'm taking on the 'fun attitude' today so as to not let it ruin my weekend... its state tourney time and I'll be off to the lanes with the girls for some fun most of the weekend. Here's just a few quips from the folks who love to give me grief...
From my girls at the local gas station....
clerk #1~ 'You look tooo happy today'
clerk #2~ 'What did you do? Run someone over?'
clerk 2 is a friend of the family and knows a little history, lol....
and one from my construction guys... who see me coming down the road and turn the sign to stop even though there are NO cars anywheres near but they're bored and wanna chat.....
stop sign holder~ 'There are just some days when you have to tell them to 'kiss my big, fat, hairy white a$$' ....in reference to dealing with troublemakers
and my daughter last night.....
'Oh she has ADHD too!' .... explaining why both me and her hubby spin the little spin toy on the grandbaby's walker.
03 de março AttitudeWell hell... another post today, what's with that? Ok, so I'm going through emails... and I found this one to share!
Attitude
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said, "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!" Attitude is everything. Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly....... Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... It's about learning to dance in the rain. At a Loss of WordsIt seems like I'm at a loss of words lately.... sure there's plenty going on but its just not getting put on paper( or in this instance... screen).
It has been a very busy month, both at work and socially... guess the cabin fever has gotten the best of me and a few offers of things to do and get out and about are taken advantage of. That and I do need to do my 'spring cleaning'... ok, that is a good thought, lol, but its mostly still on the 'to-do list'. A few other projects being done to 'keep me out of trouble'... and upcoming bowling tournaments. This year nationals are at Reno Nevada...and then we'll spend a couple days in San Fransico. I'm looking forward to getting away for a few days. Although this year, instead of taking some of the 'optional' tours, I think it will be nice to just sit back and relax... besides, we'll be on Fisherman's Wharf so there will be plenty to do and see. |
