Oh the Aches of the Flu

Msn in all its greatness lost my first attempt at posting this, so here goes again!!

I did manage to come down with a touch of the flu this weekend... I felt it coming on when I got home Friday night, I should have taken my does of vitamin C right then and there but instead crawled into bed for some rest. I woke up later than I had planned on Saturday morning...I thought I had slept through my phone alarm but after a few missed calls I realized that my ringer was silent. So I checked the settings, called my daughter and asked her to call me back. Uh huh... there it was~ the flash of the incoming call but NO sound. AARRGGhhh... I didn't want to deal with anything and especially not this! So I call my carrier...I am eligable for a free upgrade but ordering online would take a few days for shipping plus about $30. So much for the 'free' upgrade.... instead I dared to invaded the local Wally world to get a phone. Its Saturday...everyone and their brother shops the discount store on Saturday...and to make it even more challenging, the local kidlets have been invited to show up in their Halloween costumes to get candies. All I want is to go back home and crawl into bed for an unending sleep. (Although I do wish I would have felt better...some of the little critters had some pretty imaginative outfits!)
New phone in hand, it charged while I slept for the afternoon. While Saturday seemed bad enough, Sunday was worse!! I was supposed to meet my kids for breakfast but upon waking...even my eyeballs ached, if that is possible!! Another whole day of sleep!!!
I did go into work today, glutton for punishment that I've become.... but I do believe tonight will be like the rest of the weekend.... and early night, with lots of well deserved sleep. From the rumors of previous sufferers, I'm through the worst of it... (oh lordie, I hope so!!) I've had my nice hot shower for the night, put the warm pack on my shoulders... now its off to the warmth of my comforter.

Lesson learnt~~~ take my vitamin C at the first signs of the achiness!!!

Playing Hookie

Well... I'm playing hookie from work today!! It's been a long week, lots of stuff going on...not really all that much busy stuff but just silly mind work that has just made for an interesting time hence...my 'mental' break day off. I didn't tell anyone that I took the day off...so its completely MINE!!! No commitments to anyone besides myself... what have I done? Absolutely nothing!!! lol, funny thing... my phone has been ringing with calls from folks who thought they'd give me a call only to be surprised that I wasn't working and had the time to chat with them. Ok... so my daughter called just to say that she had stopped in at my work to see me and found out I wasn't there, gotta love those kind of surprises!!

You can tell fall is in the air... I think the all the leaves have finally made it to the ground from the tree in my backyard! Last week the ground had been cleaned up but the tree had the look of full leafiness and wouldn't you know it... yep, totally covered once again!! 7 leaf bags were filled last week... time to grab another box and get them off to the compost once again. There's talk of a bit of (gasp) snow flurries this weekend!!! AARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHH.... noooooooooooooo, not yet!! Ok, so IF it does... its not like its going to pile up (knocking on wood now just in case!!)

Hmmm...Halloween is just a week away! I think I've stocked up on enough treats for the little gobblins, I've just got to stop at the liquor store and stock up on the adult treats! There will be a few friends with youngsters stopping over that will probably need a little 'bump' to take the chill off from the night. Being its a Friday night I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to fulfill a wickedly fun time!!

Tonight? Hmmm... its all set up~ save a girlfriend from a 'bad' date. An old friend of hers has endlessly bothered her for a dinner date. She has finally agreed to dinner...not the 'date' part. He's already planning the 'next' one...and has even told her how to dress for tonight, lol. So yep... I'm going to accidentally run into them. Guess a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do for a friend! Wink

Finding something old...

Well, after yesterday's post today its a little more playful...something from the past. I've been doing some straightening up around here lately, not sure if its the fall housecleaning, getting ready for winter or just some normal picking up...but I came upon a couple of my graduation picture proofs. Of course the scanner is set up on the dinosaur computer not the laptop and since I am in the middle of a few things it was just easier to take a picture of my pictures instead of finding the scanner disc..blah, blah, blah....

DSCF3537_edited-1DSCF3539_edited-1 Dang, was it really 25 years ago already?

Ok, taskmaster time...back to either re-racking the leaves, mopping the floors or maybe, just maybe... turning on the football game. But there is still that quick trip to the grocery store before the girls stop over for Bunco this afternoon... and just to fill you in, Bunco is a dice game. Its fairly simple and with the group of girls that show up, well...there's never a dull moment, lol. Enjoy your week!!

Something to Think About

Just a quickie this morning, I was going through my emails and thought this might be worth sharing. I know not everyone will agree with everything said here but it is something to think.

This Pastor has guts!! Thought you might enjoy this,
Its very interesting

T! his is a Prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems Prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate,
Everyone was expecting the usual generalities,
But this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions   a nd called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of _expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh , God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from Every sin and set us free.
Amen!"

The response was immediate.
A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest.
In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India , Africa and Korea .

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help! , may this prayer sweep over our nation and whole heartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "one nation Under God."

If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends. "If you don't Stand for something, you will fall for everything."

Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your e-mail List, in less than 30 days it would be heard by The world. How many People in your address book will not receive this prayer....do you have the Guts to pass it on?

Catching up...and celebrating

The last few days have been either busy or me being busy doing nothing, lol... a little drama in a few parts of my life has left me in a bit of a state of unrest. I'm not a big fan of drama but there are some folks who thrive on it and at times I'm drawn in without my consent so it was a time to step back and let the chips fall where they may for those creating all the stress.

A couple weekends ago, a friend and I took a little road trip north to Duluth. I tend to forget sometimes how peaceful and relaxing a day on the shoreline can be. People flock to the Great Lakes harbor town to view the fall colors, walk the boardwalk along the shoreline and watch the ships come up the canal and dock. The only ship that managed to draw the warning from the lift bridge when we were there happened to be the local tour boat, not a big ship hauling through the Great Lakes. Still it was a beautiful day to wander through the shops and atmosphere of the town.

This last week, my grandparents celebrated yet another anniversary!! Their 69th year of being together.... what a milestone! They had their marriage blessed at church and then we went to Gram's favorite after church stop... A&W. This was just a small gathering since tonight we will be celebrating once again, lol...the whole fam damily should be in attendance. While no one could probably give them a better gift than my parents did on their 25th anniversary (lol...I am reminded of it every year Wink)... their first grandchildren, twin girls, we do enjoy getting together to celebrate our day together. (Hmmm, yep do the math... that would make me and the evil sister 44) Gram and Gramps now have their bloodlines down a few generations... 2 kids, 7 grandkids, 9 great grandkids and one newly born great, great grandson. The numbers are a far cry from days of old...both grandparents had siblings in the double digits but as always times have changed... people don't have that many children, marriages are done at an older age and at times don't last that long, but the love still remains. They are getting older... its hard to listen to them both talk about not being able to do the things that they have loved doing in years gone by... but gramps being 92, its understandable that his garden will be needing help from the rest of us, along with the fall canning which he so dearly enjoys sharing with family, friends and even the local utility man who stops over to work on the furnace. Gram now recognizes voices... as she says, 'I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other'.  Here's to both of them... wishing secretly to help them celebrate another 69 years together!

Yes, I'm here and ready to blog!

Lately I just haven't been in the mood to blog... guess its the whole too much on my mind to know which one to pick out without making a few idle comments. Maybe its something in the air, I just needed some time.

I'm ready for this election season to be over!! While the focus is on the Presidential Election, I wish people would realize that they need to watch who they vote for in all catagories. If we remember our history lessons and the attention getting silly ads of 'School House Rock'  from my Saturday morning cartoon time as a kid... bills go through the house and senate before the president signs them. If you want to get even more detailed... keep an eye on your local commisioners and other politicians.

With all the political ads and mailings, you can't believe everything you see and hear! Read the fine print.... for the most part, the mailings aren't sent out by a candidate but by a political interest group promoting a candidate that is willing to work for their particular interest. The television commercials are probably only half-truths... one of our local news stations does an analysis of the campaign commercials, as with everything now adays these ads use sound bites that make the opposition look unsuitable for office. You're going to have to do a little research this year...

We've had a few good political discussions at work this fall... and I've managed a few good online messages back and forth with a Canadian friend who is interested in just how, why and what this election year is going to mean for the future. Its given me a bit of a new perspective on how influentical this great country is in little ways to the world. It has also given me a chance to re-evaluate my thoughts and ideals... they still remain pretty much the same but discussing them has made me realize once again why I believe them.

There are friends who are going to disagree with my political views, which is fine... we will have to agree to disagree on candidates but 'praying' for me to change my political party lines is probably not necessary. Lol, one gal at work is working hard for me to see her views... and I just can't do it for the non-sensical blabbering she has done.

The countdown is on.... choose wisely! Which ever party wins, its going to be historical...

Lists, lists and more lists

Oh I so need more time in the day!!!! At the moment I have a few too many projects collecting that I need to spend some time on plus visiting some sites and just catching up with folks online.

Here are a few things that need my attention....

1. I've got to get a date set for Bunco night at my house... I had hoped for a day in September but ummm.... its October already!!

2. My mom has been nagging (ok, tooo strong of a word... wanting) me to grab my camera and take some pictures of the statues and stained glass windows in Church. I did this when I took a week off after the grandbaby was born. Well... it seems she has put these in a photo album and now one of the Church groups wants to 'publish' it as a fundraiser. There were a few pictures that were a bit blurred so I need to go back and retake a couple, but I also said I would look into a few websites that could do the job since I'd gotten a few publishing sites from my writing class last spring.

3. For some silly reason people think I take good pictures, lol... I'm just in the right spot with the right lighting and the right equipment but now I'm thinking as long as I'm putsing around with the other publishing site, I may as well look into doing a 'Nature Calendar' or a perpetual one and bring in a few extra bucks in my pocket....

4. I've got to call for a couple hotel reservations... one for the spa/casino night with my sis, the other for the State Bowling Tourney in March...

5. Download some new pictures onto my computer... got a couple great ones!!! Wink lol

6. Print a few of the pictures,  matte and frame them.

7. Seems like the boy's girlfriend is all gung-ho on decorating for Halloween... have that planned for this weekend if the weather holds. Come Halloween night I'll be passing out candy to the little gobblins... and drinks to a few of the parents that stop by.

8. I need to sit down with my coffee and do a bit of blog-walking since I've neglected that of late...and there's a few people I hope to catch online to visit with.... I've been so bad at keeping up with some folks these last few weeks!

9. I won two free tickets to a boat cruise (not a vacation mind you, just an hour or two down the river) that I would like to squeeze in sometime this fall yet before the leaves all turn and drop off....

Who ever said that when the kids moved out there would be more time to do things? Sarcastic
